A three-time All-American at wide receiver, Brandon Schmidly still leads Evangel in most receptions in a career with 148. A three-time First Team All-Heart selection, Schmidly also earned all-Heart honors as a freshman after leading Evangel in receiving yards in 1994 and 1995. He still ranks second all-time with 2,639 yards receiving trailing only Evangel Hall of Famer, Anthony Ray who finished with 2,719 yards.

His 10 touchdowns in '96 rank eighth-best in a season and he finished his career with 24 touchdown catches, fourth-most in Evangel history. As a freshman in '94 Schmidly led Evangel with 42 catches as Evangel reached the NAIA postseason for the first of three trips during his career. As a junior, Evangel finished 11-1 and reached the national semifinals falling to Sioux Falls, 28-22. As a senior, Evangel again reached the postseason going 9-2 and winning back-to-back Heart Championships. During his four seasons, Evangel posted a 33-8-2 record.
