As part of the Evangel University Athletic Standards of Excellence, our student-athletes are given the opportunity to participate in service trips to better the various communities around them. This allows them to blend their passion for their sport with their passion for serving others while responding to their calling as Christian athletes in a significant and meaningful way. We partner with agencies such as Convoy of Hope, Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, and churches to serve our local and regional areas. We also partner with missionaries and international Christian organizations to serve abroad on short-term ministry trips. Â
Athletes plan and organize the trips with their teams and coaches. Trips often include competition against local teams in the region, educational experiences, service projects, team-building activities, and exciting cultural excursions. Students often return from their trips with a renewed focus on their relationship with God and with others. They have a deeper appreciation for their experiences in the United States and are more aware of the depth and meaning of their calling and their Evangel academic and athletic career.
"When I joined the Evangel Cross Country Team my freshman year, I would have never thought our team would have the incredible opportunity to travel overseas on a ministry trip. That is why Peru is so unique from all the other ministry trips I have been on. There is something special about an athletic team traveling overseas together to not only do what they love, which in our case is running but also to have the opportunity to minister to the people of Peru."Â Jocelyn Green, 2013 Evangel Graduate
