SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University volleyball team got back on the winning track Friday night with a 3-1 win over Heart of America Conference newcomer, Clarke University.
Evangel took set one 25-20 before 10 errors in the second set allowed Clarke to steal a 25-22 win. However, Evangel rallied back hitting over the .200 mark in both the third and fourth sets to claim decisive 25-23 and 25-16 wins.
A trio of Evangel players finished with double-doubles, led by Jorie Garrett's 12 kills and 24 digs, for a solid performance on both sides of the net. Both setters, Brianna Justis and Stacey Jorden tallied double-doubles as well in the win.
Freshman Sandy Mohr was also impressive on the offensive side of the net, with a match-high 15 kills and .379 hitting percentage.
Clarke was led by Kim Russell with 13 kills as Ashley Smith added 23 digs.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Freshman Sandy Mohr posted a season-high 15 kills as her .379 hitting percentage was the highest since a .429 mark against Central Christian.
- Evangel held Clarke to a .119 hitting percentage, the lowest mark since holding William Penn to a .054 mark on Sept. 30.
- Evangel will play six of its final seven games at home to end the regular season.
