SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Evangel volleyball team was unable to finish off a rally Saturday falling in the Heart Postseason Tournament Quarterfinals, 3-2, to Mount Mercy.

Evangel raced out to an early lead in the first set 25-14. However, errors and a strong defensive block by the Mustangs helped the visitors take a 2-1 lead. Evangel managed to tie the match in the fourth set, 25-21, to send it to a fifth set but Mount Mercy managed to hang on.

Kristen Johnson led the way with a match-high 15 kills, while Ciera Reyes and Daisy Eklund each added 12 kills apiece. Victoria Fishback paced the offense with 25 assists and 11 digs.

Defensively for the Crusaders, Eryn Russell added 31 digs, while Gabby Massengale tallied three blocks.
