SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel volleyball team swept past Mount Mercy, 3-0, Friday night in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

The Crusaders were impressive in the three-set win over the Mustangs as two large runs in the second and third set helped put Mount Mercy away. Evangel edged Mount Mercy 25-22 in set one and cruised in set two 25-15 before taking a 25-19 third set victory.

As a team Evangel hit over .300 in the final two sets and finished the match with a .319 mark – the second highest of the season.

Heather Gahm led Evangel with a match-high 16 kills and a .467 hitting percentage. Ayona Tharps and Olivia Johnston also finished with double-figure kills adding 12 and 10 respectively. Tharps added four blocks on the defensive side of the net as well.

Evangel finished with 12 blocks in the win as Jorden Stacey added 18 digs individually.

The Mustangs were led by Alyssa Weldon with 12 kills.
