ATCHISON, Kan. – Evangel Softball began a stretch of eight games in five days on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Benedictine. Thanks to excellent pitching in game one, EU gained a lead and held it to claim the victory, 4-0. Game two was a thrilling matchup between both teams as Benedictine outlast EU, 7-6, in the tenth inning.
HIGHLIGHTS

Evangel's offense grabbed and maintained a lead throughout the entirety of game one, winning 4-0.

Abby Jo Emmitt (4-3) was outstanding in the circle in game one, shutting out the Benedictine offense and only giving up two hits.

In game two, Evangel and Benedictine battled into the tenth inning, as the Valor came up just short, 7-6.

Samantha Romano (2-2) pitched well throughout the entire game, finishing her afternoon throwing 9.1 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel kicked off game one recording hits from three of their four first batters. Mariah Hanner was scored after Brooke Arnold doubled to center field, giving the Valor a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, Ali Raley reached base on a walk and was scored after Karlie Romines sent a two-run home run over the left-center field wall, giving Evangel a 3-0 lead.

The Valor tacked on an insurance run in the top of the fourth, when Romines was scored on a Hanner single to center field, making it a 4-0 ballgame.

Emmitt could not be touched in the circle in game one, giving up just two hits and striking out four batters to record the complete game shutout.

In game two, Evangel got hot on offense early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Hanner walked and was scored on a Josie Allcock single. Morgan Shockley and Allcock were scored after Annslee Leeviraphan reached on a fielder's choice, and Arnold crossed home plate after Megan Stone hit a sacrifice fly, giving EU a 3-0 lead.

Benedictine added two runs of their own in the second inning, narrowing Evangel's lead to just one run, 3-2.

Evangel scored another two runs in the top of the fifth when Romines again came in clutch with a two-run double, scoring Stone and Arnold.

The Ravens found more offense and tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring three runs off Romano.

Neither team could capitalize and score any baserunners until the 10th inning when Benedictine scored on a walk-off double, taking the game 7-6.
NOTABLE

Emmitt recorded her 39th career win in the circle in game one and her ninth career shutout.

Romines hit her first career home run in game one.

Romines also recorded her eighth RBI of the season in game two, guiding Evangel's offense throughout the afternoon.

Evangel will continue their conference schedule in Kansas, taking on MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe tomorrow (Mar. 30) afternoon. Games will begin at noon.
