WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Evangel Softball returned to action on Tuesday (May 12) evening, taking on the Dillard Bleu Devils in an elimination matchup, as the Valor aimed to keep their season alive.

The Valor used a five-run spot in the third inning to take an early lead, downing Dillard 7-3 to advance to the opening round semifinals tomorrow (May 13) against #1 Southeastern, after rain pushed the game to Wednesday.

NOTABLE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After neither team was able to score in the first two innings of play, Evangel Softball scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-0 lead. Kenna Mayfield worked a walk, followed by a Naomi Perkins single. An error allowed Natalie Morgan to get on base, scoring Mayfield, before Audrey Carlton ripped a home run to left field, taking a 4-0 lead. Camryn Casey walked and stole second later in the inning, scoring on a Karli Facklam double to make it a 5-0 lead.

  • The Valor added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Facklam singled and Danielle Cutbirth worked a walk, both scoring on a Mayfield triple down the left field line, making it a 7-0 advantage.

  • Dillard would score a run in the top of the sixth and a pair in the top of the seventh, but the damage had been done, as EU took a 7-3 win over the Bleu Devils to keep their season alive.
