Offense Explodes for Evangel Softball in Sweep vs Stephens

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel softball team outscored Stephens College 31-3 to sweep a non-conference double-header Monday afternoon at Crusader Field winning game one, 20-0, before taking an 11-3 win in game two.

Game 1
Evangel jumped out to an early lead scoring four runs in the first and nine runs in the second inning to build a 13-0 lead.

Allison Davis hit the first of three home runs in the game with a 2-run bomb in the first inning before Megan Tiede blasted a 3-run homer in the bottom of the third. Ali Raley led off the fourth inning with a solo shot to straightaway center for her third hit of the game.

Davis and Tiede both finished with 4 RBIs each, while Davis and Taylor Good recorded three hits apiece.

Bridget Rippe allowed just three hits and struck out five throwing the first three innings. Emma Hill finished the final two innings adding a pair of strikeouts with just one hit before the run-rule victory for the Crusaders.

Game 2
The second game saw another run-rule victory for Evangel coming with a walk-off triple from Kami Holt.

Evangel fell behind in the top of the first inning as Stephens scored a pair of runs however the Crusaders answered with six runs on seven hits in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-2 lead. The scoring started with a home run from Michelle Sheppard in the leadoff.

The Crusaders hit two home runs in the second game as Hailey Lange led off the second inning with a blast down the left field line. Lange finished 4 for 4 with a pair of RBIs to help lead the offense while Holt added two hits and four RBIs.

Of the 14 hits, seven were for extra bases for the Crusaders, as the pitching staff held Stephens to just three hits.

Abby Emmitt struck out two and allowed three hits before Taylor Mathis pitched the final two innings of relief. Mathis added a pair of strikeouts and no hits.

Evangel is scheduled to host St. Mary's on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
