Atchison, Kan. – Evangel pushed past Benedictine in the Heart of America conference standings Thursday with a sweep of a doubleheader on the road in Atchison, Kansas winning game one 3-2 and game two 4-2 in nine innings.
Kiara Carrier's solo home run in the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave Evangel a 3-2 win in game one. The homer was Carrier's eighth of the season. Evangel tied the game at 2-2 in the third on Kasie Zukow's two-RBI double. Michaela Tolliver (10-5) got the win going 7 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs with one walk and 2 strikeouts.
Evangel went nine innings in the second game picking up a 4-2 win to the complete the sweep. Megan Washam tripled with two out in the ninth driving in two to put Evangel in the lead 4-2. Desley Jett pitched two innings in relief to get the win allowing just one hit.
Evangel improved to 19-12 and 10-6 in the Heart of America conference. The Ravens dropped to 21-14 and 8-6.
The Crusaders continue their road trip Friday as they play at Culver-Stockton in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
