Sioux City, Iowa-- Evangel lost their first match at the NAIA National Championship Tournament to undefeated and second ranked Park (Mo.) 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-15) Tuesday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Crusaders trailed most of the first set and losing 25-20. The 20 points was more than the Crusaders managed against the Pirates in any of the three sets in a 3-0 loss to Park earlier this season on September 27th.
Evangel led throughout the second set and were up 13-10 at one point but a late Pirates rally tied the match at 18-18. Evangel lost the set 25-21.
The Crusaders fell behind early in the third set and never recovered. Evangel trailed by as many as eight points at 17-9 and dropped the third set 25-15.
Haley Watson led the Crusaders with 8 kills and Morgan Kensinger added 6 kills for Evangel. Wanessa Siqueria led Park with a match-high 16 kills and Wendy Romero added 13 kills for the Pirates.
Evangel dropped to 26-12 on the season and Park improves to 35-0.
Evangel will be back in action again on Wednesday, December 3rd when they take on #11 Grand View (Iowa) at 3:15pm in Sioux City, Iowa for their second round-robin game in Pool B.
