Evangel Softball Takes on Coyotes for Home Friday Doubleheader

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After sweeping the Bethel Threshers on Wednesday, Valor Softball concludes their home stand against the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Friday (Apr. 18) afternoon.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday as the Valor look to carry over their strong offensive play from Wednesday.

SERIES HISTORY

Evangel is 5-4 all-time against Kansas Wesleyan, sweeping the Coyotes on the road last season, 4-2 and 2-1.

OPENING STORYLINES

  • Evangel swept Bethel in a pair of run rule victories on Wednesday, 12-1 and 10-2.

  • Ellie Facklam currently leads the Valor and the KCAC at the plate, batting .486 on the season.

  • Karlie Romines leads EU with 10 home runs this season, 12th all-time in a single season in school history. Romines is currently tied for seventh in school history for home runs in a career, currently with 18.

  • Facklam and Romines both lead Evangel with 47 RBIs so far this season, tied for 12th all-time in EU history.

  • Kenna Mayfield currently has 50 stolen bases so far this season, leading Evangel, and is currently second for stolen bases in a single season at EU, just three behind the school leader, Michelle Sheppard, in 2019.

  • Mayfield is also second in runs scored in a single season, currently with 57 scored this year, just seven behind Kendra Corbin (2009), the current EU record holder.

  • Maddy Meierer leads Evangel in the circle, currently with 18 wins and a 0.86 ERA. Meierer is currently tied for 5th for wins in a single season (18), 9th for wins in a career (34), 10th in strikeouts for a career (247), and 14th in strikeouts for a single season (128), 

  • Evangel has committed 27 errors this season, compared to their opponents 60, helping keep EU in games with their strong fielding.

  • The Valor are currently alone in second in the conference, but are first by winning percentage, as EU is two games behind the majority of the conference after mid season rainouts. (RV) Friends currently leads the conference with 18 wins.

Evangel Softball hits the road for their final regular season road games of the season, taking on the Saint Mary Spires on Wednesday (Apr. 23) afternoon at 2:00 p.m., in Leavenworth, Kansas.
