Valor Softball Hosts Sterling for Monday Doubleheader

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After five consecutive sweeps of conference opponents, Evangel Softball returns home to open a gauntlet of a week, taking on the Sterling College Warriors on Monday (Apr. 14) afternoon.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. for Monday's doubleheader.

SERIES HISTORY

Evangel is 3-0 against Sterling, after sweeping the Warriors on the road last season, 7-0 and 6-0.

OPENING STORYLINES

  • Evangel swept McPherson on the road last Saturday, 11-2 and 18-3, to move their winning streak to 10 games.

  • Ellie Facklam currently leads the Valor and the KCAC at the plate, batting .488 on the season. Facklam also leads EU with 41 RBIs.

  • Karlie Romines leads EU with seven home runs this season.

  • Kenna Mayfield currently has 44 stolen bases so far this season, leading Evangel, and is currently third for stolen bases in a single season at EU.

  • Maddy Meierer leads Evangel in the circle, currently with 16 wins and a 0.96 ERA. Meierer has already moved into the top 10 for wins in a career in just her second season at Evangel, currently with 32.

  • Evangel has committed 24 errors this season, compared to their opponents 54, helping keep EU in games with their strong fielding.

  • The Valor are currently tied for third in the conference with Ottawa (14 wins), but are four total games behind the majority of the conference after rainouts. Friends currently leads the conference with 16 wins while Oklahoma Wesleyan is a game ahead of EU in second.

LOOKING AHEAD

Evangel Softball remains at home on Wednesday (Apr. 16) afternoon with a doubleheader against Bethel, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
