BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Valor Softball opened Heart Conference Tournament play on Thursday (May 4) evening, taking on the three-seed Mount Mercy, looking to take a win to move forward in the winners bracket.
Evangel fell to the Mustangs, 6-2, running into strong pitching from Mount Mercy and moving to the bottom half of the bracket in the double elimination tournament.

Both teams played a scoreless first inning, but Mount Mercy plated three runs in the bottom of the second, taking a 3-0 lead.

Mount Mercy scored two runs in the bottom of the third and a run in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 6-0.

The Valor began to fuel their comeback in the fifth inning. Although recording four hits in the first four innings, EU was unable to score any runs. Naomi Perkins singled to right field to open the fifth inning, followed by a Kya Schmidt groundout that advanced Perkins. A Megan Stone single to left field advanced Perkins to third base and an Arnold double scored both Perkins and Stone, making it a 6-2 game in favor of Mount Mercy.

Evangel was unable to generate any additional runs in the game, as they fell, 6-2 in their first round matchup with the Mustangs.
UP NEXT
The Valor will move to the bottom half of the bracket, taking on MidAmerica Nazarene at 11:15 a.m. tomorrow (May 5th) morning in Baldwin City, Kansas, in a win or go home matchup.
