LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Valor Softball hit the road on Thursday (Apr. 2) afternoon, opening a four game road trip with a doubleheader matchup against Saint Mary.

Evangel's offense did just enough in game one, behind a strong outing from Maddy Meierer and the Valor defense to take a 2-0 win. In game two, EU could only muster one run in the first inning, as the Spires walked-off Evangel in the bottom of the seventh inning to break EU's undefeated streak in conference play, 2-1.

NOTABLE

  • Maddy Meierer earned the win against Saint Mary, striking out eight batters and earning her 17th win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After four scoreless innings in game one, Evangel broke through with a pair of runs in the fifth. Karli Facklam singled and Danielle Cutbirth reached on a fielder's choice, as both runners scored on a Saint Mary error to give EU a 2-0 lead.

  • The Valor defense held the Spires to just three hits after scoring their runs in the fifth, taking a 2-0 win in game one.

  • Evangel opened game two by scoring early, as Kenna Mayfield worked a walk, stole second, and scored on a Lauren Dill single.

  • The Valor were able to get runners on third on four different occasions in game two and were called out at home in the fourth inning, but could not stretch any additional runs on the board, as Saint Mary rallied in the seventh, scoring a pair to give EU just their fifth loss of the season, 2-1.
