SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Softball concluded their regular season with a matchup against the seventh ranked team in the nation, Baker, on Saturday (Apr. 29) afternoon, looking to take a game from the squad.

Evangel was swept against Baker, falling 8-3 and 5-0 on Saturday, after taking on a pair of the best pitchers in the nation.

NOTABLE

  • Ali Raley finished 3-6 from the plate on Saturday, driving in a run in game one, the 133rd of her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Evangel scored the first run of the game in game one. Megan Stone walked, advancing to second on a passed ball and scoring on a Kenna Mayfield single to take a 1-0 lead.

  • Baker scored eight unanswered runs from the second inning to the sixth inning, taking a 8-1 lead over the Valor.

  • Evangel made some noise in the bottom of the seventh, attempting to fuel a comeback. Kya Schmidt singled to center field and a Stone double advanced her to second. A Brooke Arnold ground out scored Schmidt and a Raley single scored Stone, making it 8-3, in favor of the Wildcats. Evangel was unable to score any additional runs in the inning, falling 8-3.

  • Evangel took on Kira Baker in game two, who currently has the best ERA in the nation by a starter (0.22). The Valor and Wildcats played a scoreless first three frames, but Baker was able to break through in the fourth inning, scoring three runs and a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.

  • The Valor were unable to generate much on offense against Baker's pitching, recording just a single hit and working one walk, as they fell 5-0 to the seventh ranked team in the nation.

UP NEXT

The Valor earned the six-seed in the upcoming Heart Conference Tournament, taking on the three-seeded Mount Mercy Mustangs on Thursday (May 4th) evening at 5:00 p.m. in Baldwin City, Kansas.
