CANTON, Mo. – Valor Softball concluded their six game road trip on Saturday, facing off with Heart North foes, Culver-Stockton Wildcats, with a doubleheader in Canton.
Evangel took an early lead in game one, but a big bottom of the fourth inning for Culver-Stockton proved detrimental to EU's chances to win, falling 7-5. In game two, the Wildcats scored a run in every inning as Evangel was unable to keep pace with CSC's strong offensive play, falling 13-3 in five innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel put a run up to open scoring in game one in the top of the second. Kenna Mayfield reached first base on a CSC error, advancing all the way to third on a Josie Allcock-Sperry single down the right field line. A Annslee Leeviraphan sacrifice bunt brought Mayfield home, giving the Valor a 1-0 lead.

Culver-Stockton scored a run in the bottom of the third inning and six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead over Evangel.

The Valor offense came alive in the top of the fifth, pushing to try to make a comeback. Naomi Perkins singled through the left side, scoring on a Stone home run to center field. Ali Raley followed Stone's homer with a single and scored on a Mariah Hanner home run, also to center field, making it a 7-5 Culver lead.

The Valor were unable to score any additional runs over the final two innings, falling to Culver-Stockton, 7-5.

The Wildcats scored three runs to open game two, but Evangel was quick to respond to the opposing offense. Hanner doubled to left field to open the second inning and a Mayfield triple to right field scored Hanner. A Cayleigh Berry bunt single scored Mayfield and made it a 3-2 Culver-Stockton lead.

Culver again scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to extend their lead to 6-2.

Evangel scored a run in the top of the third after Stone doubled down the left field line and Brooke Arnold doubled to center field, making it a 6-3 ball game.

Culver-Stockton scored seven unanswered runs after Evangel's final run, taking a 13-3 lead and the win in five innings of play.

The Valor look to bounce back after a tough week of play on Friday (Apr. 21) afternoon when they host the Mount Mercy Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
