MARSHALL, Mo. – Valor Softball took on the Missouri Valley Vikings on Friday, looking to bounce back from a doubleheader sweep back on Wednesday in Olathe.
Evangel came out strong offensively in game one, scoring eight runs en route to an 8-4 victory against MVC, but fell behind early in game two, falling 3-1 after tying the match towards the end of the game.

Ali Raley went 2-2 in the first game, finishing with two RBIs, two walks, and a run scored.

Samantha Romano earned her ninth victory in the circle this season in game one.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Megan Stone doubled to right field in the first inning of game one and stole third base after an Ali Raley walk. Keeley Aaron entered to run for Raley and attempted to steal second in a planned play. Aaron was caught stealing, but allowed Stone the time to steal home, giving the Valor an early 1-0 lead.

Missouri Valley tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first, but the Valor used a five run second inning to expand their lead. Kenna Mayfield legged out a single to open the inning and advanced to second on a groundout. An error on MVC allowed Annslee Leeviraphan to get all the way to third base and score Mayfield. Cayleigh Berry walked and stole second base followed by a Naomi Perkins double that scored both Leeviraphan and Berry, making it a 4-1 game. After Perkins stole third base, Brooke Arnold hit a home run, giving the Valor a 6-1 lead at the end of the top of the second.

Missouri Valley scored a run in the bottom of the third, but a Megan Stone fielders choice was followed by a Raley home run, putting Evangel ahead, 8-2.

MVC scored two runs in the middle innings, but were unable to fuel a comeback as the Valor were victorious, 8-4.

The Vikings scored a run in the bottom of the second to open scoring in game two. Evangel was able to even the score in the top of the fourth after Mariah Hanner hit a double and scored on a Missouri Valley error.

The Vikings scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Evangel went three up, three down over the last three innings of the match, unable to take the comeback, 3-1.

The Valor will continue their road trip on Saturday (Apr. 15) afternoon for a doubleheader matchup against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats, beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
