OLATHE, Kan. – Valor Baseball concluded their four game road series with the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers on Friday, looking to attempt to take a split with the Heart South rival.
Evangel played a competitive game one against the Pioneers, forcing extra innings after MNU took an early lead. The Valor ultimately fell short in game one, 5-4, in eight innings of play. In game two, Evangel was ambushed early by the Pioneers offense, falling behind 4-0 at the end of the first inning, and took the loss, 14-5, in the final game of the series.

Brooks Espy led Evangel, going 5-6 at bat on Friday, including 4-4 in game one with two RBIs.

Evangel's fielding was perfect on day two, their first series without an error in the field this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED

MNU scored three runs in the first two innings of play, taking a 3-0 lead.

Athanie Leeviraphan walked and advanced to third on an error, scoring on a Levi Loughridge sacrifice fly to make it a 3-1 game in the top of the third.

Evangel evened the score in the top of the fourth. Eli Cook walked and a Brooks Espy home run scored Cook, making it a 3-3 score.

In the top of the fifth, Brennan Espy was hit by a pitch and Riley Mitchell entered to run. Mitchell advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Cook single to right field to give Evangel a 4-3 lead.

MNU scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to force another tie, 4-4.

Neither team was able to score in the sixth or seventh innings, forcing extras in Olathe. Evangel was able to record two hits in the top of the eighth, but was unable to score a go-ahead run. MNU homered in the bottom half of the inning to walk-off with a 5-4 victory.

The Pioneers took a quick 4-0 lead in game two, scoring all four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Mitchell entered to run for Bro. Espy after he singled and Mitchell stole second base, advanced to third on a MNU error and scoring on a Evangel ground out to give EU their first run of the game, making it 4-1.

Over the following three innings, the Pioneers scored nine unanswered runs, taking a 13-1 lead over Evangel.

The Valor were able to cut into the MNU lead in the top of the sixth. Hunter Condon entered the game and promptly singled to center field. Condon was followed by Rodell Andrews III who hit a home run to make it a 13-3 ball game. Cook reached on a fielders choice and Arly Miller walked. Mitchell came in to run for Miller and Cook was scored on a Nathan Lamb single. Mitchell scored on the next at-bat when the MNU pitcher threw a wild pitch, cutting into the deficit and making it a 13-5 game.

MNU scored an extra run in the bottom of the sixth as Evangel was unable to score in the final half inning, taking a 14-5 loss.
