SALINA, Kan. – After dropping a game in the second round of the KCAC Tournament, the Valor Baseball program moved to elimination games on Friday, needing to win out to have a chance at the conference tournament title.
Evangel matched up with the #6-seeded Tabor College Bluejays, needing a win to advance to the conference tournament semi-finals. Despite leading 5-2 late in the ninth inning, the Valor could not find the final out before Tabor mounted a comeback, resulting in a heartbreaking 6-5 loss to the Bluejays, ending Evangel's 2026 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Neither team would score in the first two innings of play in the Evangel/Tabor matchup, but in the top of the third, Evan Jno-Baptiste singled and Heath Perry was hit by a pitch to put a pair of runners on. A Nate Nunes sacrifice fly scored Baptiste, while a Cade Beshore single scored Perry, giving EU a 2-0 lead.
-
Tabor responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the third, dwindling Evangel's lead to 2-1.
-
The Valor took advantage of errors in the fourth inning, as Quentin Edwards was able to get on base and score on errors and a Gannon Miller sacrifice fly to make EU's lead 3-1.
-
Evangel added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, as Jno-Baptiste singled and scored on a H. Perry triple to right field. Perry scored on a bases-loaded walk from Beshore to give EU a 5-1 lead.
-
The Bluejays added a run in the bottom of the sixth to draw within three runs of Evangel's lead, 5-2.
-
Tabor would not go down quietly in the first contest, as the Bluejays plated three runs to force extras, 5-5, in the bottom of the ninth.
