HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Evangel and Ottawa played a scoreless first two innings, but the Valor offense exploded for four runs in the top of the third. After Evan Jno-Baptiste was hit by a pitch, Mason Reilly singled to also get on base. A Quentin Edwards blast to right field gave EU a 3-0 lead in the inning. Not to be out-done, Justus Cherrico immediately followed Edwards home run with an identical one of his own to extend the lead to 4-0.
-
After Kannon Perry was hit by a pitch, TJ Newman entered as a courtesy runner for the catcher. Newman was able to get all the way to third and score on a Cherrico single to give EU a 5-1 lead.
-
Ottawa added another run in the bottom of the seventh, but EU responded by scoring a run in the top of the ninth, as Reilly doubled and scored on an Edwards sacrifice fly, 6-2.
-
After Isaac Daley went seven innings allowing just one earned run, Newman closed the door in relief, striking out a pair of batters to give EU the 6-2 upset victory.
