Offense Grows Cold as Valor Softball Falls to MNU on Wednesday

OLATHE, Kan. – Valor Softball continued their road trip on Wednesday (Apr. 12) afternoon, facing off against a tough MidAmerica Nazarene squad in Olathe, Kansas.

The Valor struggled to put runs on the board on Wednesday, ultimately falling by just a single run in both games, but only scoring a single run combined in both matches, falling 2-1 and 1-0 against the Pioneers.

HIGHLIGHTS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Evangel got on the board early in game one. Brooke Arnold walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Arnold then advanced to third on an Ali Raley single, scoring on a Mariah Hanner sacrifice bunt to take a 1-0 lead.

  • The Pioneers were able to score two runs in the bottom of the first, taking a 2-1 lead by the end of the first inning.

  • Kenna Mayfield recorded a hit in the top of the fourth and was able to advance all the way to third base, but was left stranded in the inning. Mayfield's hit was Evangel's final hit of game one, as the Valor fell, 2-1.

  • Neither team was able to score a run in regulation of game two, but Evangel nearly scored a run in the top of the sixth. Naomi Perkins singled and stole second. A Megan Stone single to left field advanced Perkins to third, but Perkins was tagged out at home, which was the third out of the inning.

  • In the tenth inning, the international extra-innings rule came into effect, putting a runner at second base. Evangel was able to get Cayleigh Berry to third base after a Perkins single, but left her stranded after failing to record a hit after her single in the inning.

  • MNU hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the tenth, scoring the walk-off run and taking a 1-0 win.

UP NEXT

The Valor will continue their road trip on Friday (Apr. 14) afternoon for a doubleheader matchup against the Missouri Valley Vikings, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
