SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Baseball hosted Harris-Stowe State on Saturday for a single nine-inning match, looking to take their 13th win of the season.
A big sixth inning proved to be the difference for the Valor on Saturday, scoring five runs and pushing the team to a 12-4 victory over the Hornets to open the three game series.

Levi Loughridge had a big day on offense, going 4-5 from the plate, and hitting the cycle, with a single, double, triple, and home run.

Evangel's pitching held the Hornets to just two earned runs and struck out 11 batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Neither team scored in the first two innings of the match, but Harris-Stowe took a lead in the top of the third when they scored three runs.

Holton Simmons kicked off the bottom of the third with a double to right center field. A Brooks Espy fly out advanced Simmons to third, followed by a Riley Mitchell walk and stolen base to get to second base. An Eli Cook single up the middle scored both Simmons and Mitchell, cutting the Hornets lead, 3-2.

Harris-Stowe took a 4-2 lead at the end of the top of the fifth inning, but Evangel matched the Hornets score to keep it just a one run deficit, 4-3. Cook walked and scored on a Loughridge double to score the run.

A Rodell Andrews III single was followed by an error by the Harris-Stowe pitcher that advanced the runner to third and Simmons to second. An Athanie Leeviraphan walk loaded the bases for Evangel in the bottom of the sixth. Cook walked to score a Valor run and soon after a Loughridge triple cleared the bases and gave EU a 7-4 lead. Carson Sturdefant singled to score Loughridge and take a 8-4 lead into the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Gabriel Falcone came in to pinch hit and on just the second pitch of the at bat, Falcone hit a bomb to left field, extending the Valor lead to 9-4.

A Cook walk to kick off the bottom of the eighth inning put Evangel in a good spot as Loughridge completed the cycle, hitting the elusive home run ball to deep left field, pushing the Valor lead out to 11-4. Jeremy Vickers singled and scored on an Arly Miller single, solidifying the Valor 12-4 victory against Harris-Stowe.
