SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Baseball took on the Missouri Valley Vikings on Sunday, opening a four game series against the Heart South foe.
Evangel used a strong offensive attack as well as excellent pitching from Austin Dill to take the win in game one, but fell in game two as they could not push runners across the plate on 10 hits.

Brennan Espy was 5-8 on Sunday, finishing his afternoon with 2 RBIs and four runs on a double, a home run, and three singles.

Evangel finished with 23 hits through both games on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel came out strong in game one. Dill struck out the side to open the game and the Valor tacked on three runs in the bottom of the inning. A Bre. Espy single was followed by a Jeremy Vickers sacrifice bunt. An Athanie Leeviraphan single up the middle scored Espy and then a Carson Sturdefant home run to left field gave EU an early 3-0 lead.

Evangel scored five runs in the following inning. An Arly Miller walk was followed by a Matthew Olson double to score a run. Bre. Espy hit a home run to left field, scoring himself and Olson. Vickers was hit by a pitch and then stole second and advanced to third on an error, scoring on a Leeviraphan single. Sturdefant reached base on a MVC error and scored on a Levi Loughridge single, rounding out the scoring and giving Evangel an 8-0 lead.

MVC scored two runs in the top of the third and a wild pitch scored Olson in the bottom of the third after he had gotten on base via a single.

The Vikings made it a 9-3 game after scoring a run in the top of the fourth, but Evangel scored another three runs in the bottom of the fifth. A Bre. Espy double was followed by a Vickers single and Leeviraphan walk to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Espy and a Rodell Andrews III single through the left side scored Vickers and Leeviraphan, solidifying the Valor 12-4 victory.

Missouri Valley opened game two scoring their four runs of the game in the first two innings. Evangel had their offense come alive in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs. Olson and Bre. Espy both singled to open the inning and a Vickers sacrifice bunt advanced both into scoring position. Leeviraphan singled to score Olson and a Sturdefant fielder's choice scored Espy, making it a 4-2 game.

Evangel would draw within a run in the bottom of the seventh as Andrews III walked to open the inning. A ground out and fly out advanced Andrews to third and a Vickers single scored Andrews, bringing the Valor within a single run and with a runner in scoring position. The Valor would not convert on the next at bat, falling 4-3 in game two.
