HOW IT HAPPENED
-
In game one, Evangel struggled to score runs on offense. Midland scored two runs in the first two innings, while the Valor did not score their first run until the fifth inning. Naomi Perkins walked and scored from first on a Brooke Arnold single to right field, making it 2-1 in favor of the Warriors.
-
Evangel could not muster additional offense in the top of the sixth or seventh, ultimately falling a run short, 2-1, in the loss to Midland.
-
The Valor left nothing to question in game two, using strong offense to take a win. Arnold walked and Megan Stone reached on an error to put two runners on base. An Ali Raley single scored both, giving the Valor a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
-
Bethel tied the game up at two runs apiece, but EU responded with another two runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning. Perkins singled and scored on an Arnold double to left field. Arnold then scored on a Raley single, giving the Valor a 4-2 lead.
-
Several Bethel miscues allowed Evangel to score four runs in the third inning. Josie Allcock-Sperry reached on an error as did Annslee Leeviraphan, scoring Allcock-Sperry. Cayleigh Berry reached base via error and a Perkins single loaded the bases. Stone walked, scoring a run from third and a Raley singled scored two more runners, making it 8-2, in favor of EU.
-
Three runs in the top of the fourth for Midland made it an 8-5 Evangel lead. A Kenna Mayfield single followed by a Leeviraphan single scored Mayfield, putting EU ahead, 9-5.
-
In the bottom of the fifth, Perkins singled and stole second. A Stone single scored Perkins, followed by a Raley single that scored Stone, making it now 11-5, with Evangel needing just two more runs to run-rule the Threshers.
-
In the bottom of the sixth, Leeviraphan walked and a Berry single put both runners on base. A Arnold single scored Leeviraphan and a Bethel error scored Berry, giving Evangel the game 13-5, run-ruling Bethel in six innings.
