WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Valor Baseball concluded their weekend series with the Williams Baptist Eagles on Saturday, playing one nine inning matchup and looking to take the series after splitting on Friday.
Solid pitching and timely offense helped guide the Valor to the 5-3 victory on Saturday afternoon.
HIGHLIGHTS

Carson Sturdefant led Evangel at the plate, going 2-3 with three RBIs in the win.

Austin Dill struck out 12 in six innings of work, while Rolando Galvez pitched 1.1 innings, earning the win as Evangel took the lead with him on the mound.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Williams Baptist took an early 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning, but Evangel quickly responded, plating two runs in the top of the second. Eli Cook singled and a Sturdefant home run gave the Valor a 2-1 lead.

The Eagles scored two additional runs in the bottom of the second, regaining their lead, 3-2.

Both teams had solid pitching through the middle innings, not allowing another run to score until the top of the seventh. A Levi Loughridge double kicked off the inning. Kyle Johnson courtesy ran for Loughridge and a Brennan Espy single advanced Johnson to third. Johnson then evened the game at three runs apiece on a Sturdefant sacrifice fly.

A Holton Simmons single and Eli Cook fielders choice put Simmons in scoring position. A Loughridge double gave Evangel the lead immediately after, scoring both Simmons and Cook, and giving Evangel a 5-3 lead.

Colby Vavruska was solid in the ninth inning, not allowing another run to score and helping push Evangel to the 5-3 win.
NOTABLE

Loughridge came up big in the late innings, finishing with two RBIs and going 2-3.

Galvez earned the win while Vavruska recorded the save.
