LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – After taking on the Avila Eagles on Friday, Valor Softball had a quick turnaround when they traveled to Leavenworth, Kansas, to take on the Saint Mary Spires. In what was a preview of next year's change to the KCAC conference, Evangel swept Saint Mary, 10-0 and 5-1, moving to 3-1 on the season.
HIGHLIGHTS

Evangel had a solid game one at the plate, scoring 10 runs over seven innings.

Samantha Romano pitched a complete game shutout in the first game, allowing just four hits and striking out seven batters.

Micaiah Cordell and Ashland Diggs had a solid game of pitching in the final game of the afternoon, striking out nine combined batters and giving up just a single run.
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Valor and Spires both did not score in the first two innings of the afternoon.

In the top of the third, Brooke Arnold kicked off the innings with a double to right center field. Arnold advanced to third on a groundout and scored on an Ali Raley single, giving EU a 1-0 lead.

Megan Stone kicked off the fourth inning with a triple to center field, then scoring on an error. The Valor were able to load the bases after a hit by Karlie Romines and an Annslee Leeviraphan walk. With the bases loaded, Josie Allcock was able to push two runs across, giving the Valor a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning.

In the sixth inning, Cayleigh Berry singled and came around to score on a Saint Mary's error. Spencer doubled soon after to score Leeviraphan and put the Valor ahead 6-0.

Evangel plated four runs in the top of the seventh. Kenna Mayfield got on base on an error, then advanced to third on a Stone double. Mayfield scored on a Mariah Hanner groundout. Lili Merrick singled, scoring Stone and after several fielder choices, Romines scored on a bases loaded walk. Berry scored the final run in game one for Evangel when a ground out scored her, solidifying Evangel's 10-0 win.

In game two, Evangel scored a single run in the second, third, and fifth inning. The Valor plated two runs in the sixth inning.

Mayfield doubled in the second inning for Evangel and scored on a Stone double.

In the third inning, Josie Allcock was hit by a pitch and then scored on an Ali Raley double.

Berry singled in the fifth inning and scored on a Allcock single after stealing second base.

In the sixth inning, Mayfield continued her solid game two, walking and stealing second, then scoring on a Hanner double. Hanner eventually scored EU's final run of the afternoon on an error by the catcher.

Evangel will take on the Central Baptist Mustangs in two weeks (Feb. 24) at 1:00 p.m. in Conway, Ark.
