SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Coming off two thrilling matchups against Missouri Valley, the Valor looked to avenge their earlier losses to MidAmerica Nazarene. In game one, Evangel's Samantha Romano shut down the Pioneer offense, helping lead Evangel to a 4-0 shutout victory. Game two was a thriller between both teams as the Valor walked off in the seventh inning on a Brooke Arnold single, 2-1.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evangel used an early two run home run to grab a lead in game one and added two insurance runs in the late innings to claim a 4-0 victory over the Pioneers.

  • Romano (8-3) continued her impressive week of play in the circle, pitching a complete game shutout and grabbing her third win of the week.

  • The Valor had plenty of offense in game two, but could not push runs across home plate. Finishing the game with 11 hits, Evangel mustered just two runs, which was enough to overcome the Pioneers tough day at the plate, 2-1.

  • Abby Jo Emmitt (8-5) received the victory in game two as she pitched in relief and allowed zero hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In game one, Arnold got on base in the first inning when MidAmerica committed an error. Karlie Romines quickly sent her home when she hit a two run blast right beside the foul poul in left field, giving EU an early 2-0 lead.

  • After Romines home run, neither team generated much offense. It took four innings for a run to be scored when in the bottom of the fifth, Abigail Posten doubled to score Morgan Shockley, who was running for Ali Raley, and was scored by a Megan Stone single, giving the Valor a 4-0 lead.

  • Romano nearly went three up, three down in the final two innings, giving up just one walk to the Pioneers and leading Evangel to a 4-0 victory in game one.

  • In game two, Evangel mustered a hit in every single inning, but could not advance their runners on several different occasions. In the bottom of the fourth, Ali Raley took the offense into her own hands, hitting a no doubt home run to left center field, giving Evangel a 1-0 lead.

  • MidAmerica quickly responded by pushing across their first run of the afternoon in the top of the fifth on a bases loaded single, but the Valor's Emmitt pitched out of trouble, forcing a pop out to end the inning.

  • The Valor made some noise in the bottom of the sixth, by loading the bases with no outs. The Pioneers used a combination of good pitching and fielding to shut down Evangel's offense and walked away from the inning, unscathed.

  • In the bottom of the seventh, Evangel's Annslee Leeviraphan singled to get on base. Sydney Hill singled to second base and Leeviraphan was called safe due to obstruction by the MNU shortstop. Arnold came up to bat with just one out and put the game away when she singled to right field, scoring Leeviraphan and giving EU the 2-1 victory and sweep.

NOTABLE

  • Romines blasted a two run shot in game one, her second home run of the season.

  • Romano received her third victory over the span of two days, claiming her 14th career win in the circle on Tuesday.

  • Raley hit a home run in her second consecutive day in game two, moving to 12th all time in Evangel history with 13 career home runs.

  • Arnold had a good day at the plate for the Valor in game two, finishing her with a batting line of 3-4 with the game winning RBI.

  • Kaydran Russell went 3-5 with a walk throughout Tuesday afternoon.
