SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Fresh off a two-game sweep of Benedictine, Evangel came into Sunday's doubleheader matchup with the Ravens ready to play. Thanks to dominant starting pitching in game one, Evangel came away with the victory, 3-2. In game two, the Ravens caught fire offensively, preventing an Evangel sweep, 10-5.
HIGHLIGHTS

Game one was a battle between both teams aces and ultimately EU pulled out the low-scoring affair, 3-2.

Austin Dill (5-3) used a complete game outing to shut down the Benedictine offense in game one, striking out six batters and allowing just four hits.

Benedictine found their offensive groove in game two and took advantage of six Valor errors, taking the final game of the series, 10-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED

After two scoreless innings to kick off game one, Benedictine used a double and a single to score the first run of the game.

The Valor used their half of the third inning to overcome Benedictine's lead by scoring on an error on the Raven pitcher and by scoring during a pickoff of Athanie Leeviraphan that allowed Mason Hansen to steal home.

EU grabbed a 3-1 lead when Hansen was scored off of a Noah Suiter double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Benedictine quickly countered in the top of the sixth by getting a runner on base when he was hit by a pitch. The next batter doubled to left field, narrowing the EU lead to just one run.

Following the double, Dill proceeded to force a double play and the Evangel infield took care of business, recording the final three outs in the top of the seventh, securing the 3-2 win for EU.

In game two, Benedictine quickly grabbed a lead, scoring six runs over the span of the first two innings.

Evangel responded in the bottom of the fourth, when Leeviraphan got on base on an error by the Raven shortstop and Suiter was walked to get on base. Leeviraphan was then scored on a Jeremy Vickers single and Suiter was scored on a Stephen Belcher sacrifice fly, cutting the Raven lead to just four runs, 6-2.

Benedictine tacked on additional runs in the fifth inning after two EU errors, giving the Ravens an 8-2 lead.

Evangel again matched Benedictine in their half of the fifth when Suiter singled, scoring Leeviraphan and Nathan Lamb to make it an 8-4 game.

Belcher scored in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to a Hansen single to center field, but this was the final run scored by the Valor as they fell, 10-5.

Evangel will travel to Peru, Neb., on Friday (Apr. 1) to take on Peru State in a weekend doubleheader. Friday's games will begin at 1:00 p.m.
