Box Score 2 LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Evangel hit the road on Friday (Feb. 11) morning, taking on Saint Mary and Briar Cliff at the Saint Mary Softball Complex in Leavenworth, Kan. Evangel took another extra inning thriller in game one, 4-2, thanks to a strong eighth inning of offense and shutdown defense. The Valor matchup with Briar Cliff resulted in a win, 5-2, after consistent offensive play.
HIGHLIGHTS

Micaiah Cordell struck out ten and allowed one run over 4.2 innings while Abby Jo Emmitt (2-0) pitched 3.1 relief innings, giving up no earned runs and earning the game one win.

In the Briar Cliff matchup, Samantha Romano took the mound and gave up only two runs. Emmitt (2-0) took the mound and pitched another 3.1 relief innings to earn the game two win.

Evangel began the morning seeing the ball well, scoring two runs in the top of the 1st. The Valor tacked on two more runs in the top of the 8th to put game one away.

The Briar Cliff game began in similar fashion to the Saint Mary game, with EU scoring two runs in the top of the first. Evangel scored the go-ahead run in the 4th and never looked back.

Megan Stone and Josie Allcock had big days for the Valor, providing the majority of the EU runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Stone reached first after being hit by a pitch and scored on a Allcock triple to score the first run of the matchup with Saint Mary.

Ali Raley scored Allcock on a sac fly in the next at bat to give EU a 2-0 lead.

Saint Mary answered in their half of the first, scoring an unearned run after McWilliam got to first on an error.

In the bottom of the fifth, Saint Mary tied the game up and ultimately forced extras. In the eighth inning, Allcock singled, advancing Stone to third. Raley then doubled, scoring Allcock as Stone was tagged out at home. Minnick came in to run for Raley and Arnold brought her home after singling to give EU a 4-2 lead. Emmitt then struck out the next two batters and forced a fly out to give EU their second win of the season.

In the Briar Cliff game, Evangel again got on the board first. It was nearly an exact copy of the first game as Stone reached first on an HBP and Allcock tripled to bring her home. Allcock later was brought home to give EU a 2-0 lead.

Briar Cliff got on the board in the second inning, scoring their only two runs of the ball game.

Minnick singled in the bottom of the fourth and was scored by Stone who hit a triple. Stone was then scored after Allcock singled to give EU a 4-2 lead.

EU tacked on an insurance run in the sixth after Stone singled and Allcock doubled to give the Valor a 5-2 lead, one they took to the final Romano pitch.
NOTABLE

Emmitt recorded two wins in one day. She now has 37 wins in her career at EU.

Romano's excellent pitching carried over from Tuesday, allowing her to only allow two runs in the second game.

Allcock recorded 4 RBIs on the day, good for 57 RBIs in her career. Stone finished her day with 4 runs.
UP NEXT
Evangel will come home for their home season opener against Central Baptist on Friday (Feb. 18). First pitch is slated for 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon.
