CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Josie Allcock's go-ahead triple capped a fifth-inning rally that lifted Evangel to a 2-1 victory over Culver-Stockton Friday morning at the 2021 Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Championship at Busse Field.

Trailing 1-0 entering the top of the fifth, EU rallied for two runs, using back-to-back run-scoring hits by Megan Stone and Allcock, before Abby Jo Emmitt closed out the victory by retiring nine straight Wildcat hitters.

Freshman Samantha Romano (4-1) limited the Wildcats to three hits and one unearned run in the second inning over the first 4.0 innings. Emmitt took over with one on in the fifth and, after issuing a walk to the first hitter she faced, promptly worked out of a potential jam with a pair of strikeouts.

Emmitt, a Second-Team All-Heart Conference honoree, proceeded to dispatch the Wildcats in order in each of the final two frames to earn her third save of the season.

Mariah Hanner started the key Evangel rally of the game with a leadoff double to left, before Kristyn Stocks won a 12-pitch battle with Culver starter Emma Roseberry to coax a walk. After Hanner was doubled off second on a fly ball to left, Stone came through with an RBI single to tie the game, and Allcock followed with the go-ahead triple for a 2-1 EU lead.

C-SC plated its lone run of the day in the second off Romano, when Alle Thompson tripled and scored on a fielder's choice coupled with an Evangel error.

Allcock led EU with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, while Emmitt topped the 400-career strikeout plateau with six punchouts in her 3.0 hitless innings of relief.
