SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel dominated Bacone for a second consecutive day Saturday at Crusader Field, outscoring the Warriors by a combined 23-0 margin in a doubleheader sweep.
Kristyn Stocks recorded a pair of three-hit games for the Crusaders, while the tandem of Bridget Rippe and Samantha Romano limited Bacone to a combined total of two hits in completing the four-game series sweep.
Game 1 – Evangel 8, Bacone 0 (6 inn.)
Evangel relied on a complete-game, one-hit effort by Rippe to capture game one of the doubleheader. The Crusaders recorded 10 stolen bases and scored seven runs in its final three turns at-bat to close out the 8-0 win.
Rippe (2-1) struck out seven and faced just two batters over the minimum to earn the victory, while Stocks led the EU offense with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate.
Evangel got on the board in the second via a Kaydran Russell inside-the-park home run. Anah Noble gave the Crusaders a 3-0 edge with her two-run single in the fourth, and Megan Stone sparked a three-run rally in the fifth with an RBI single.
Russell drove in her second and third runs of the game with a double, before Stone brought in the eighth EU run with a triple in the sixth.
Russell finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Stone added two hits and two RBIs off the Crusader bench.
Game 2 – Evangel 15, Bacone 0 (5 inn.)
The Crusaders followed a similar formula in the nightcap, relying on the pitching of Romano and a relentless offense that scored four runs in the first inning, five more in the second and six in the third.
Stocks was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish, scoring three runs and driving home another one, while Josie Allcock homered and registered three RBIs for the Crusaders.
Romano (3-0) was equally as effective in the circle allowing just three baserunners while striking out eight batters.
EU got the ball rolling in the home half of the first, scoring on a Bacone error following Stocks' bunt single to take a 1-0 lead. Allcock delivered an RBI single, before Mariah Hanner tripled home a run and Russell squeezed in the fourth run of the inning.
Stocks and Allcock played starring roles in EU's five-run, second-inning rally as well. After Kami Holt tripled and scored on a wild pitch to start the rally, Stocks singled home Stone and Allcock belted a two-run shot to left field to make it an 8-0 game.
Russell capped the second-inning scoring with an RBI single to right, chasing home Hanner to push the margin to nine runs.
The Crusaders sent 11 hitters to the plate in the third, plating six runs on six hits to put the game on ice. Trystin Minnick registered a pinch-hit, RBI single to start the scoring, before Stone drove in two more baserunners with a double to center.
Next, Lilly White and Michaela Castleberry delivered two more huge blows from the EU bench to extend the rally. White lined a pinch-hit, RBI-single to right to plate Stone, and Castleberry brought in two runs with her pinch-single up the middle that completed the scoring.
