SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel softball team swept the Missouri Valley Vikings in doubleheader action on Tuesday. In both games, the Crusaders scored five runs and had double-digit hits.

The Crusaders were also effective from the circle today with both starting pitching lasting six innings or more.

Game One
The first game saw the Crusaders start off hot. They scored twice in the second off a 2 RBI single from AJ Carpenter. Then in the third, Jenna Halbrook had an RBI double that scored Kami Holt. Brooke Perry hit a sac fly to left in the fourth inning to score Michelle Sheppard. Finally, in the fifth inning, Halbrook again had an RBI double that scored Holt.

Halbrook went 3-3 in the game, with two doubles and two RBIs.

Bridget Rippe pitched a complete game shutout, giving up four hits, and striking out five.

Game Two
The Crusaders were held scoreless until the fifth inning when they tied the game after a sac fly from Sheppard scored Holt from third base. Then the bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth as the Crusaders plated four runs. Davis had an RBI double, while Sheppard, Cailey Barnes, and Josie Allcock all had RBI singles.

Sheppard, Perry, and Holt all went 2-3 in the game.

Emma Hill got the win and pitched 6.1 innings, giving up two runs off three hits. She struck out three and walked two.

Abby Jo Emmitt got the save and pitched .2 innings and striking out one.  

Up Next
Evangel will hit the road this weekend and take on Grand View in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa. On Saturday, they will head to Lamoni, Iowa to take on Graceland in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
