SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel baseball team was swept in the doubleheader against conference foe William Penn, losing 2-0 in the first game and 4-3 in the second.

Game one was a pitcher's duel that saw the Evangel offense held quiet. In game two, the Crusaders were able to get things going before William Penn made a comeback in the sixth inning to win the game.

Evangel was the visiting team for both games, despite playing at home, because the games had to be moved because of weather in Iowa.

Game One
The first game saw the Crusaders held in check offensively, only able to get two hits courtesy of Jordan Yates and Preston Allmand. The Crusaders struck out 10 times.

Brett Hoffman got the loss and pitched a complete game for the Crusaders. He was able to get out of a couple of bases-loaded jams in the early innings but eventually gave up two runs in the bottom of the third. He gave up four hits, walked two and struck out two in his appearance.

Game Two
The Crusaders quickly woke up the bats in the second game, scoring a run in each of the first three innings. Patrick Gaul scored off a Yates groundout in the first. Noah Suiter scored in the top of the second off a Preston Allmand single. Finally, Mason Baur scored a run in the top of the third after a double from Jose Vargas.

In total, the Crusaders notched six hits, but saw their lead evaporate after the Statesmen scored two runs in the bottom of the third, one run in the fourth, and the winning run in the sixth.

Bryan Adames started the game for the Crusaders and pitched 3.0 innings, giving up five hits and two runs, while walking one and striking out two.

Zach Johnston pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up one run and one hit, while walking one and striking out one.

Austin Dill pitched 2.0 innings of relief and was given the loss. He gave up one run and one hit, while walking one and striking out three.
