MESA, Ariz. – Evangel Baseball concluded the Coach Calderone Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 24) afternoon, taking on the Benedictine-Mesa Redhawks in Mesa, Arizona.
Evangel's Quentin Edwards would hit an early three run blast, but the Valor could not generate enough run scoring offensive production, as the Redhawks scored 10 runs in a 10-4 loss for EU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Evan Jno-Baptiste opened Saturday's game with a single to center field, followed by a Heath Perry walk to put runners on first and second. Quentin Edwards hit a shot to right center field, giving the Valor a 3-0 lead.
-
Evangel struggled to open Saturday's game, allowing a walk and two hit batters to give the Redhawks a pair of runs, as EU maintained a 3-2 lead, heading into the second inning.
-
An error in the second inning by the Valor defense kept the inning alive, as the Redhawks scored a run on a single and hit a three-run home run, taking a 6-3 lead over EU.
-
Pitching command hurt EU in the third inning, as three consecutive hit batters allowed Benedictine-Mesa to extend their lead to 8-3.
