SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel softball team was finally able to open the 2019 season and did so with a bang earning a 9-2 and 10-0 win over Hannibal LaGrange Wednesday afternoon.

Game 1
Evangel and Hannibal LaGrange both opened the scoring in the third inning with a run apiece. The Trojans would take a brief lead in the top of the fifth inning before the Crusaders broke the game open with four runs in the fifth.

Allison Davis belted a solo leadoff home run to tie the game and was followed by a Taylor Good triple to score Cailey Barnes. Davis finished 1 for 1 with two runs scored as Evangel pounded out six hits.

Michelle Sheppard added a pair of hits, two runs, and two RBIs in game one to aid the Crusaders.

Bridget Rippe earned the win in the circle with a complete game 4-hitter. Rippe walked just one while striking out six.

Game 2
The second game saw Evangel jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never look back.

The Crusaders scored in all four offensive innings before a 2-run home run from Chelsea Strain put the run rule in effect. Evangel scored 10 runs on 11 hits with Sheppard and Anah Noble leading the way with two hits each.

Allison Davis joins Strain with multiple RBIs in the win as the bats continued to roll.

Abby Emmitt earned the win after allowing just two hits in the five-inning game. Emmitt struck out seven as well in the shutout.

UP NEXT
Evangel returns to action on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader against Cottey College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
