OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The Evangel baseball split its road double-header Thursday falling 4-3 in 13 innings before taking a 6-2 win in the nightcap at William Penn.

Game One
Playing a rare road game after a home double-header on Thursday, the Crusaders played its longest game of the season. William Penn managed to outlast Evangel in 13 innings as a triple to lead-off the inning was followed by an RBI single to cap the marathon.

Derek Kennell tossed six innings to earn a no-decision after striking out five and walking just one. Tanner McVey entered in the seventh looking for his eighth save, but a pair of rare hits against the Evangel closer tied the game with a home run.

Austin Dill pitched the final four innings as he was charged with the tough loss after allowing just two hits.

Evangel took the lead with two runs in the fifth inning and added another run in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. Patrick Gaul, Jordan Yates, Dustin Hargus and Gabe Franklin all tallied multiple hits in the loss.

Game Two
Evangel got another solid outing on the mound from Bert Hoffman who tossed a complete game earning his sixth win. Hoffman scatted five hits and allowed just two runs while striking out two in his ninth start of the season.

Offensively, the Crusaders took the lead in the third inning with a pair of runs with RBI's from Tanner McVey and Dylan Bradshaw.

The Crusaders opened the game up with four runs in the fifth inning after William Penn tied the game with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Back-to-back walks to lead-off the inning set-up a second RBI from Bradshaw to score both Yates and McVey as he finished the game with three RBIs.

McVey was joined again by Patrick Gaul with multiple hits going 3-for-3 while Gaul was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
