TEXARKANA, Texas – The Evangel baseball team dropped its opening two games of the 2017 season, 6-4, to Williams Baptist and 5-1 to Our Lady of the Lake Friday in a round robin format tournament.

In game one, the Crusaders battled back to post three runs in the third inning taking a 3-2 lead. Williams Baptist regained the lead in the fourth before Evangel again tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning.

However, after a scoreless fifth inning, the Eagles plated a run and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Evangel was held scoreless over the final three innings as starter Brad Potts went four innings and struck out six, but allowed four runs to earn a no-decision.

Dustin Hargus was 2-for-4 with two RBI as Stevin Cisneros scored twice and picked up a RBI with his first hit of the season. The Crusaders tallied nine hits while Williams Baptist finished with 12 hits.

Game two saw Our Lady of the Lake take a 2-1 lead after the first inning and finish with a 5-1 victory. The Saints out-hit Evangel 13-5 in the nightcap as their starter, Jordan Hackett scattered two hits over six innings allowing just the one run.

Blake McCarty scored the only run for Evangel from his lead-off spot after going 1-for-4.

Dustin Eby was tabbed with the loss in game two after going five innings and allowing four runs. Josh Lachnit was solid for Evangel in relief pitching three innings and scattering four hits and giving up just one run.

The Crusaders take on host Texas A&M-Texarkana on Saturday before closing action in a rematch with Our Lady of the Lake. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
