SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A walk-off home run from Kyle Thurman highlighted a series sweep for the Evangel baseball team in a 6-5 and 5-0 victory over McPherson College Saturday in non-conference action.
The Crusaders extended their win streak to nine straight with the sweep of the Bulldogs. The last time Evangel won more than nine consecutive came at the end of the 2014 season.
Saturday's first game saw Evangel build a 4-0 lead before a five-run inning in the top of the fifth gave the Bulldogs a one-run lead. The Crusaders would come back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning as the excitement held to the bottom of the seventh.
Thurman belted his second home run of the season over the right field fence giving the Crusaders the win.
Austin Alfrey helped the Crusaders offensively going 3-for-3 in game one.

Deric Link pitched the final out of the fifth as Josh Lachnit earned the win pitching two perfect innings with one strikeout.
In game two, Evangel jumped out to a 5-0 lead after scoring all five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Crusaders pounded seven hits as Thurman and Ryan Frye both had multiple hits in the win.
