SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A solid complete game on the mound followed by an offensive outburst helped the Evangel baseball team sweep the first two games from McPherson College Friday, 5-3 and 13-4 in non-conference action.
The Crusaders managed to stay hot pushing their win streak to seven straight games after Friday's double-header sweep. It is the longest streak for Evangel since the 2014 season when the Crusaders posted streaks of seven and 10-wins during a 34-15 season.
Game one was dominated by Derek Kennell who scattered eight hits and allowed just three runs. Kennell earned his second win of the season as he struck out two and walked just two.
The Bulldogs got on the board early with a run in the first inning, but Kennel pitched four scoreless innings before McPherson added two late runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Evangel broke the game open in the bottom of the third with four runs to take a 4-1 lead. The Crusaders added an insurance run in the fifth as Austin Alfrey and Tanner McVey each finished with two RBI apiece.
The second game saw Evangel explode for five runs in the fourth and five more in the sixth innings. The Crusaders tallied 14 hits in the game as Dustin Hargus finished 4-for-4 with three RBI and Jordan Kirkpatrick was also 3-for-3 with a trio of RBI.
Stevin Cisneros joined the hit parade with three hits and three runs scored for the Crusaders.
On the mound, Brad Potts earned the win pitching five innings and walking none. Taylor Wood pitched the final two innings, as he held the Bulldogs to just one hit while facing nine batters.

Evangel and McPherson will play the final two games of the series Saturday with a double-header starting at noon.
