Frye homers three times, but EU falls twice to MNU

Springfield, Mo. – Evangel baseball's season came to an end on Friday with the Crusaders falling twice to MidAmerica Nazarene at the Evangel Baseball Complex. The Crusaders lost game one 11-4 and game two 7-5.

Evangel would never lead in game one after MidAmerica Nazarene put up four runs in the top of the first inning. Ryan Frye hit two home runs in the game, both two-run shots with one in the second inning and the other in fourth inning. The Pioneers pulled away, though with three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

Frye homered again in game two but MidAmerica Nazarene came back after trailing 5-1 to win 7-5. Frye hit a three-run bomb in in the bottom of the third inning as Evangel built a four run lead. MidAmerica Nazarene took advantage of two walks and two hit batsmen from Justice Boldin to score five runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good.

Between games one and two on Friday, Evangel baseball hosted their senior day celebration. To help celebrate the day, senior first baseman Tanner Smith threw an inning of relief in game two. Smith, originally signed as a pitcher but saw time as a position player for the Crusaders after undergoing two 'Tommy John' surgeries on his elbow. He had been unable to pitch for Evangel until Friday's game.

Evangel ended the season 15-38 and 7-25 in the Heart of America conference. MidAmerica Nazarene improved to 38-13 and 21-11 in the conference.
