Evangel Softball Swept by Central Methodist

Fayette, Mo. – Evangel softball suffered a sweep on Wednesday afternoon, dropping two to conference foe Central Methodist. Evangel dropped game one 4-0 and game two 6-5.

The Crusaders couldn't muster any offense in game one, managing just two hits off of Central Methodist's Erin Enke. Michaela Tolliver allowed four runs in four and a third innings of work, with Jessica Cook finishing the game.

In game two, Evangel took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first with Enke starting again for Central Methodist. The Eagles would score in the first and third innings to tie the game, but Evangel took back the two run lead in the fourth and fifth. However, a bases loaded walk, an error, and two sacrifice flies drove in four runs to put the Eagles up for good.

Kyra Parker threw four innings for Evangel, with Jessica Cook picking up the final two innings. Caitlin Buckalew drove in three runs for the Crusaders in game two to lead the offense.

With the losses, Evangel falls to 24-10 on the season, and 10-4 in the Heart of America Conference. Central Methodist improves to 27-13, and 9-3 in the conference. Central Methodist are now ahead of Evangel in the conference standings, with the Crusaders dropping into a third-place tie.

Evangel are next in action on Saturday, April 16th when they travel to Atchison, Kansas to take on Benedictine. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
