Softball splits non-conference doubleheader at Williams Baptist

Walnut Ridge, Ark. – Evangel split a doubleheader on Monday at Williams Baptist as the Crusaders stepped out of conference play and lost game one 5-1 but won game two 4-0 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. 

Williams Baptist held Evangel to a single run on four hits in the first game. The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on Brittany Arnold's solo home run. The Eagles struck back with two runs in the second inning and three more in the sixth. Williams Baptist starter Rylee Rogers (12-3) walked only one batter while striking out six as she picked up the win. 

In game two, Evangel starter Kyra Parker (8-3) won her seventh consecutive start shutting out Williams Baptist 4-0. The Webb City native allowed no walks and struck out one while holding the Eagles to four hits. Megan Washam and Michelle Sheppard both went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Crusaders. 

Evangel's record goes to 17-7 and they have won 14 of their last 16 games. Williams Baptist ended the day 19-9. 

The Crusaders return to Heart of America conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Missouri Valley. Game time for the doubleheader is at 1 p.m. in Marshall, Missouri.
