Springfield, Mo. – Evangel softball won twice on Saturday afternoon sweeping Saint Mary (Kan.) in a doubleheader, 4-1 in game one and 6-0 in game two.
Michaela Tolliver continued her early season success in game one throwing seven innings while only allowing one run on five hits. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Evangel would break through on Saint Mary starter Carrie Lee with two runs on a Caitlin Buckalew double and a Kiara Carrier sacrifice fly. Evangel would tack on two more in the sixth inning and stranded Spires runners on first and second in the top of the seventh to finish the win.
Evangel took the lead in game two with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Brittany Arnold opened the scoring with a two-run double to the wall in left-center field. Evangel would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out rally started by Megan Washam's double. Kyra Parker had her best start of the season throwing a complete game shutout while allowing only four hits. Katie Tollefson went 3 for 4 at the plate for the Crusaders with a run and an RBI while Michelle Sheppard went 3 for 3 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base.
With the wins, Evangel improves to 9-5 on the season and extended their winning streak to six games. Saint Mary drops to 9-15-1.
Evangel plays at home again on Tuesday, March 15th when they host Lyon (Ark.) in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm.
