Springfield, Mo. – Evangel softball won twice on Tuesday afternoon sweeping Ottawa (Kan.) in a doubleheader 4-1 and 4-3.
Michaela Tolliver allowed only one run and no earned runs over seven innings in the first game. She surrendered just four hits while striking out three. Evangel would get on the board in the bottom of the first after Brittany Arnold's double drove in Katie Tollefson, while Arnold herself would score on the same play via a throwing error. Evangel would tack on single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Evangel would also strike first in game two after Kiara Carrier singled, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored after a wild pickoff throw. Kyra Parker preserved the lead for four innings. However, Ottawa would take the lead in the top of the sixth by scoring three runs on reliever Jessica Cook. Evangel would come back to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth on a Caitlin Buckalew double and a Jillian Belieu single. After the first two batters reached in the bottom of the seventh, Brittany Arnold would single home the winning run over the right fielder's head.
With the wins, Evangel improves to 5-5 on the season. Ottawa dropped to 5-9.
Evangel continues their home stand on Saturday, March 5th when they host a doubleheader with Missouri Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm in game one.
