Crusaders open their 39th season at Benedictine: Evangel opens their 39th season of intercollegiate football Saturday at Benedictine. 

The Crusaders went 6-5 last year and 4-5 in the Heart of America conference. They will be playing their second earliest season opening game in program history after starting the year on Aug. 23 at Arizona Christian last year. It is only Evangel's second game ever in the month of August. 

Benedictine is also playing their first game of the season. The Ravens went 7-4 last year and 6-5 in the conference. They enter this season ranked 25th nationally in the NAIA. 

The Ravens lead the all-time series 18-13 and won last year's game 16-6 on Oct. 4 in Atchison, Kansas.
