Springfield, Mo. – Evangel returned to league play with two losses to Avila losing game one 3-1 and game two 10-3 at the Cooper Sports Complex in Springfield.
Evangel scored just one run in the first game on a two out double by Kasie Zukow in the seventh despite out hitting Avila 10-6. The Crusaders stranded 10 runners in the loss. Sophomore Michaela Tolliver (5-3) pitched a complete game allowing three runs all in the first two innings. She allowed 6 hits while striking out six and walking none.
Julie Blevins (3-3) took the loss in game two pitching 5.1 innings. The senior allowed nine runs and five earned runs on eight hits while walking four. Rebel Robinson went 1 for 3 in the game with a two out, two-run double in the bottom of the second. Megan Washman went 2 for 2 in the game for Evangel.
The Crusaders dropped to 9-8 on the season and 2-2 in the Heart of America conference. Avila improved to 18-4-1 and 4-0 in the HAAC.
Evangel will be in action on Wednesday, April 1st when they host MidAmerica Nazarene in a doubleheader at Crusader Field on the Evangel campus. Game time for game one is 2:00pm.
