Canton, Mo. – Evangel split a doubleheader in the first two games of a four-game series at Culver-Stockton as the Crusaders lost game one 4-3 and won the second game 3-1.
Culver-Stockton rallied from 3-0 behind to win the first game 4-3. The Crusaders scored two runs in the second inning taking advantage of a wild pitch and a Wildcats' error. Evangel starter Reese Taylor took the loss despite allowing just three hits and striking out eight. Brandon Cobb went 2 for 4 with a run while Ryan Frye went 2 for 3 with a run to lead Evangel's offense.
Justice Boldin fired a complete game for the win in game two holding Culver-Stockton to one run on three hits. Boldin walked two while striking out six as he improved his record to 2-1. Brandon Cobb drove in two of Evangel's runs in the game going 1 for 4 at the plate.
Evangel went to 12-16 and 4-6 in the Heart of America conference. Culver-Stockton ended the day 8-22 and 3-7 in the league.
The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader at Culver-Stockton starting at 1 p.m.
