Kansas City, Mo. – Evangel split a conference doubleheader at Avila on Saturday winning game one 6-0 and falling in 10 innings in the second game 6-5.
Reese Taylor (3-3) fired a complete game two-hit shutout in the first game. Taylor, a junior from West Plains, allowed just two hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Brandon Cobb drove in three runs going 2 for 4 while Ryan Frye hit two doubles and had two runs scored.
In the second game, the Crusaders came back from a 4-0 deficit through two innings and tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth. Evangel forced extra innings with a run in the top of the eighth when Jordan Kirkpatrick drove in a Ryan Frye with a single. The Eagles won with a run in the bottom of the 10th on a one-out single. Frye went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and a double while Kirkpatrick had a 2 for 4 game with two runs batted in.
Evangel went to 10-14 and 2-4 in the conference while Avila moved their record to 15-9 and 4-2.
The Crusaders play next on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Baker.
