Crusaders host Southwestern (Kan.) in home opener: The Crusaders play their home opener Saturday facing Southwestern (Kan.) in the HAAC-KCAC football series.

Evangel is 1-0 after a season opening win, 40-16, at Arizona Christian on Aug. 23. The game was Evangel's earliest season opener in program history and was the first game ever game for Arizona Christian as they entered their first season of collegiate football.

Southwestern is 0-1 after starting the season with a home loss to Oklahoma Baptist 47-17. The Moundbuilders went 5-6 and 4-5 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference last year.

The two teams are meeting for just the third time ever and for the first time since 1983. The Crusaders won both games winning the match-up in 1982 23-3 and they won 24-3 in 1983 in the game played at JFK Stadium.

The Crusaders are playing their 38th home opener and are 22-15 all-time in their first home game of the year.
