SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Softball concluded their homestand on Friday (Apr. 7) afternoon, looking to continue their strong start to conference play against the Park Pirates.
The Valor used a pair of strong pitching performances from Samantha Romano and Micaiah Cordell to take the doubleheader, 3-1 and 7-1, in games one and two.
HIGHLIGHTS

Romano earned her eighth win of the season, allowing just three hits.

Cordell earned her team leading tenth win of the season, striking out five batters and allowing just a single run.

Evangel moved to 9-1 in conference play after their sweep of Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Park scored the first run of the match in the very first inning, taking a early 1-0 lead.

Evangel struggled to score a run until the bottom of the sixth, when they took a solid lead. Mariah Hanner singled to left field and a Kenna Mayfield bunt single advanced Hanner to second. Josie Allcock-Sperry singled to load the bases while a Annslee Leeviraphan bunt single scored Hanner to tie the game. A Cayleigh Berry fielders choice scored Mayfield to give the Valor a lead, and a Naomi Perkins double to left field scored Leeviraphan to solidify the Valor 3-1 lead.

Romano stranded a runner at second and shut down the Pirates, taking the win, 3-1.

The Valor offense opened game two with a Brooke Arnold hit by pitch, followed by a Raley bomb to center field to give the Valor a 2-0 lead. After the home run, Hanner walked and stole second, scoring on an Allcock-Sperry single to right field and putting Evangel ahead, 3-0.

In the bottom of the second, Megan Stone reached on a fielders choice and stole second, scoring on a Raley single, making it a 4-0 game.

Allcock-Sperry doubled to open the bottom of the third, scoring on a pair of Leeviraphan and Berry sacrifice bunts to put EU up, 5-0.

Evangel finished their scoring in the bottom of the fourth. Stone reached base via error, stole second base and advanced to third on a groundout. A Hanner single scored Stone, followed by a Mayfield single that advanced Hanner to second. Hanner scored on another Pirate error, going ahead 7-0 over the Pirates.

Park scored a run in the top of the fifth but the Valor shut down the bats after, leading to a 7-1 victory and sweep of Park.

The Valor will hit the road on Saturday (Apr. 8) afternoon for a doubleheader matchup against the 18th ranked Central Methodist Eagles, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Fayette, Mo.
